Are you hungry? Need a snack? Don’t like your own? Don’t even HAVE a snack? There’s one simple answer: Go to the nearest vending machine!
In some schools, that would be simple. But in others, that would be traveling to the next school district.
Vending machines should be available to more kids.
A lot of kids are coming to school snackless. Sometimes the kids get snacks from their teachers. But even then, it’s always graham crackers every day. When I was in first grade, when the snacks ran out, the kids who depended on the snacks were very hungry in the mornings. Though with vending machines, all kids have to do is have at least three of four quarters in their backpacks, and ta - DA! A snack happy kid.
Vending machines are also good for kids who are starting to grow. As an adult, kids will need to make choices, like what to buy at the store. Sweet, sugary Fruit Loops? Whole wheat Great Grains? Now, when kids stand in front of these mechanical machines, they can make choices that can change their lives.
Most people don't know this about me, but I have Chinese classes. There is a vending machine there, and at breaks, it's FUN to stand there and pick out a treat. And it's cool to watch the mechanical arm lift up to bring the juice back down to the slot. And then, you can eat/drink!
In the East Lansing Public School District, they had to shut down a school, because they ran low on money. For every snack bought, it can raise another dollar for districts like the East Lansing Schools, and they won't have to shut down so many schools around the country. Kids need their educations!
On the other hand, a lot of vending machines will probably be chocked full of sweets. Also, kids might bully other smaller kids, just to get their money. Those are two of the main reasons schools don't want vending machines. But I have three reasons against them. 1: In the 2014 - 2015 school year, the federal government of the USA is banning unhealthy foods with over 200 calories from school vending machines (that includes Lays, Doritos, and Pop Tarts). 2: For the rest of the sweet snacks, a kid needs to know how much sugar to have, and how much sugar not to have. If a kid never ate anything sweet, they would never know how much sugar is enough. AND, a FOOD expert said that! 3: There are still teachers at schools; aren't there? If schools took anti - bullying precautions, it would be RARE if a bully got away with that.
I have 7 reasons why we should have vending machines in schools. There are only a few things against my thinking. It seems like there are a lot of things against me, but they're only added stuff to the few rebuttals people have against vending machines. If you look on debate.com, almost all the people against vending machines have the words: "It's unhealthy for kids: they could get overweight!"
With vending machines in a lot of schools, most people will Not be hungry, they WON'T need a snack anymore, and they DID have a snack: because they could go to their new vending machine!
